Her areas of specialty are Egyptian archeology, mummification, and cultural resource management with a focus on museums, experimental archaeology, zooarcheology, ethnoarcheology, and aspects of daily life in ancient Egypt. Dr. Ikram has also worked in Greece, Turkey, and Sudan.
